The exact moment Prince Harry turned into a 'grumpy spare' while wife Meghan Markle basked in the spotlight has been pinpointed by an expert.

Reports have suggested that Harry is feeling "more and more isolated" after spending his and Meghan Markle's much-anticipated Colombia trip in his wife's shadow. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex travelled to the South American nation in mid-August in what was dubbed as a DIY royal tour.

The trip saw Meghan take centre stage on several occasions, especially when she gave a speech on female empowerment during an event for Afro-Colombian women. And according to one royal expert, the whole trip to Colombia was "created about Meghan" - especially at one of the formal lunches they attended.

Matt Wilkinson, The Sun's royal editor, told True Royalty TV's The Royal Beat: "A lot of it was about Meghan. A lot of the images and the words sent out to us via the [Sussex] press office, [not] just by a pool reporter… it was all about Meghan. The whole thing was created about Meghan.

"And when you saw the footage that was filmed by people at the dinners or people who were there that weren't part of this press pool, they showed a slightly different picture. Harry looked a little bit grumpy. May I use his vocabulary - he perhaps looked a bit like 'the spare!'"

His assessment comes as sources close to the couple have revealed that, while the two were forming a united front during their tour, Prince Harry was "sulky" and "in the background".

Speaking to The Sun, the source added that the Prince's wife stepped out in front and stole the show, appearing "comfortable stepping into the spotlight". They said: "Harry is feeling more and more isolated in California, which is why he has been reconnecting with old friends back home.

"The Colombia trip also really highlighted how Meghan is comfortable stepping into the spotlight, while Harry cuts a very sulky, unhappy figure in the background. He wants to carve out a way back into royal life back in the UK and is seeking counsel from old friends and associates."

It has also been reported that Harry has sent WhatsApp messages to a number of pals in the UK who are ready and willing to help him make a return from exile in the United States. According to The Mail on Sunday, the prince has been consulting people "from his old life" as a working royal after reportedly becoming dissatisfied with advice received from US-based PR experts.

A source says the Duke is reportedly "turning away from all sorts of Hollywood publicists" and is instead "seeking counsel from his old friends and associates". It comes as Harry and Meghan have parted ways with yet another American PR adviser - only weeks after their chief of staff quit three months into his role.

Harry is believed to have already approached a trusted figure "from the old school" known for their loyalty and discretion. One friend has reportedly drawn up a plan for how Harry can re-enter UK circles again – and possibly carry out "very low-key royal duties". The source added that the pal "believes if Harry comes back to the UK with zero fuss, does zero publicity, and attends very mundane events, he could prove himself and win over the British public again."
