The summer holidays are barely even over, and already some retailers are getting ready for Christmas. Brown Thomas unveiled its Christmas shop in mid-August, while several businesses have begun hiring temporary staff for the festive season.

Eagle-eyed shoppers have also noticed early signs of Christmas in Irish supermarkets. Last Friday, some 117 days before Christmas, a woman shared a picture online from Dunnes Stores, showing that Christmas chocolates like Cadbury's Heroes, Celebrations and Roses are already on sale.

The image, posted on Twitter by user Dawn_Galway, shows stacks of these festive treats, seemingly priced at €6. The post quickly went viral, garnering over 230,000 views and sparking a heated debate in the comments.

Many were outraged by the early appearance of Christmas items, with one person exclaiming: "JESUS!!! You’re joking!!"

Another added: "There should genuinely be a law against this." A third person joked: "They will be out of date by December."

However, not everyone was against the idea. Some commenters defended the early availability of Christmas chocolates, with one person pointing out: "Some people say this, but chocolate tins aren’t just for Christmas. They may just be when some people happen to eat them, but they’re a common feature when someone is leaving work, celebrating a birthday etc. I feel sorry for anyone who waits until Christmas to have any."
