Jamie Redknapp's three-words to fan as he acts peacemaker in Roy Keane bust-up
Roy Keane was filmed offering to meet an Ipswich Town supporter in the car park in a tense exchange at Portman Road following the side's draw with Manchester United on Sunday
Jamie Redknapp urged the Ipswich supporter involved in a spat with Roy Keane to 'just leave it'.
The Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool midfielder approached a frosty reception in the stands at Portman Road having watched Keane's conflict with an Ipswich Town fan. The ex-Manchester United captain had endured a tense exchange following the Tractor Boys' draw with Ruben Amorim's side.
Receiving instructions during an ad break, Keane departed Sky's presentation area where he was working with Kelly Cates, Izzy Christensen and Redknapp. Keane put down his microphone before approaching a man in the stand and challenging them to meet him in the car park.
The former Republic of Ireland international said: "Go in the car park and wait until the show's over. Wait in the car park and we'll discuss it. I'll wait for you in the car park."
Keane was heckled by other supporters in the stand as he reiterated 'wait in the car park' before being ushered back towards the pitch by Sky production staff. Redknapp could be seen watching on in the background as fans were encouraged to calm down before making his own approach where he pleaded for the supporter to 'just leave it'.
The relationship between Keane and Ipswich Town supporters has been a tense one. The 53-year-old spent a period between 2009 and 2011 in Suffolk but failed to find success with the side in the Championship.
Keane was relieved of his duties with the club struggling in the second tier, albeit preparing for a semi-final clash against Arsenal, after clashing with protesting fans. The ex-Sunderland manager had accused Ipswich fans of 'knowing nothing about the game' after a season of in-fighting and unrest among supporters.
"I am hugely disappointed to be leaving Portman Road," said Keane in a statement at the time. "When results aren't good the manager gets the sack, that's the game."
He added: "I have loved my time at Ipswich, living locally to the club with my family, and have a massive respect for the club, its staff, the fans and the community and I wish them well."
Sunday's incident is not the first that has seen Keane engage in a confrontation with a supporter. The Sky Sports star was headbutted at the Emirates Stadium in September 2023.
Such disputes have resulted in Keane previously declaring has no plans to continue as a pundit for the next decade. "I love football, but the hassle of matches, getting to games, and the hassle of fans. I was in court a few months ago with somebody headbutting me do you think I enjoy that side of it? Absolutely not," he said in August.
"The games are fine. Getting to the games, parking up, people shouting your name good stuff, bad stuff it's a nuisance. Being a pundit in 10 years, not."
