A fundraiser has been launched to help get an Irishman home after he suffered a brain aneurysm on holiday in Nashville for his wife’s birthday.

On November 4, John Quail travelled to Nashville, Tennessee for his beloved wife’s 50th birthday celebrations, but the “holiday of a lifetime” quickly took a turn for the worst.

After arriving at their hotel, John freshened up for dinner before he suddenly became unwell, feeling an awful pain in his head which “brought him to his knees”.

The Irishman, who had suffered a massive brain aneurysm, was rushed to the nearby Tri Star Hospital, where he was operated on immediately before being placed on life support for 10 days. John’s wife Jacinta and sister Rosie sat by his side while on life support and remain by his side as he continues to regain his health.

Following two more brain surgeries, John is now out of ICU but faces a long road to recovery, with his wife wishing to get her adoring husband back to Ireland so he can begin physio, rehabilitation and speech therapy.

As John is unable to fly in a normal plane, and instead requires an air ambulance, a GoFundMe has been set up to help and support from family and friends of friends to help get John home.

“John Quail’s family and friends are in desperate need to get John back home to Ireland,” a post on the Help Get John Home fundraiser read.

John is a family person, always there when you need him, loves having the craic and would never miss any family occasion, always the first there and last to leave, Always the life and soul of a party.

“John traveled to Nashville, Tennessee on November 4 to celebrate his wife’s 50th birthday, a holiday of a lifetime which he was so excited for that took a dramatic turn for the worse.

John was rushed to hospital after suffering from a massive brain aneurysm

“John arrived in Nashville, checked into their hotel, got cleaned up, showered and headed out for dinner. While walking into town, John suddenly didn’t feel well. He got an awful pain in his head which brought him to his knees. Thankfully, the hospital was nearby and the ambulance got to him within minutes. He was rushed to Tri Star Hospital.

“John was after suffering from a massive brain aneurysm. He got surgery immediately. They put a drain in and he was on life support for 10 days, while his wife Jacinta and sister Rosie sat by his side and are still by his side to this day. He then endured another operation where they clipped the aneurysm. His final operation, he got a shunt fitted into his brain to help remove spinal fluid that was lodging in the pockets of his brain.

“John is now out of ICU and is in step-back ICU after three brain surgeries. John has a very long road of recovery ahead of him. We need to get him home from Nashville to Ireland. John can’t fly in a normal plane, an air ambulance is going to be needed, which costs a lot of money. John will also need Intense physio, rehabilitation, speech therapy etc when we bring him home.

“All John's family and friends need to get him home as it’s where we belongs. There is no way he and his wife and sister can stay in America as the cost of this all is very expensive. We’ve set up this GoFundMe seeking help and support from family and friends of friends to help get John home, and to help the costs of medical expenses, rehabilitation and an air ambulance to transport him to Ireland.

“Any donation big or small will be a massive Help and great-fully appreciated.

So far the GoFundMe has raised over €30,000 of the €125,000 target. To donate to the fundraiser to help get John home, click the link here.
