Harry Kane famously has County Galway roots - and the Bayern Munich striker has confirmed the acts of generosity that have been written about in recent times.

Galway Beo have reported on the fact that England’s record goalscorer has donated jerseys and boots to the local football club in Letterfrack, his ancestral home.

Both of Kane’s grandparents on his father’s side hail from the County Galway town, the home of amateur club West Coast United.

The former Tottenham striker is in Carton House ahead of England’s Nations League opener against Ireland - and he spoke on Friday night about his Irish roots.

“My grandparents, my dad’s mum and dad were Irish, they were born in Ireland and moved to England,” he said.

“So I’ve got some extended family in Ireland and I’m sure they’ll be watching in the pubs, probably, wanting Ireland to win but maybe wanting me to score a goal.

“It’s my first time playing Ireland, so I’m looking forward to that. I’m sure it will be a great atmosphere and I’m respectful to any nation that I play against, so this is no different.”

Asked by Mirror Sport about his donations, he replied: “Yeah, I would have done. My dad still keeps in touch with the family there. If I’m honest, not me so much.

“But I think we’ve got great support in Ireland. There are a lot of kids here who support English players, who support the Premier League and Bundesliga now for me.

“I think it’s important to remember everyone in your family.

“I don’t get out here too much, I don’t see them too much, but I like to give back where I can and I’m sure my dad would have sorted out that sort of scenario.

“I am always happy to try and give back to kids especially, to try and hopefully one day achieve their dreams.”

Kane was also asked if he remembered his first goal for Spurs - which came on Irish soil.

He had played first-team football on-loan at Leyton Orient before returning to his parent club and playing in a Europa League group stage win over Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium.

Kane was just 18 when he netted the fourth goal in a 4-0 win.

“My first goal? At Shamrock Rovers? Yeah, I do (remember it), definitely that one,” he replied.

“It was a great night with Harry Redknapp (then Tottenham boss). I can’t remember what the score was. 4-0?

“It was nice to get on and nick a goal, my first Tottenham goal, and obviously it was my first of many there. It was a great memory.”
