Man rushed to hospital with serious injuries after assault in Cork City

A man has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after he was assaulted during a disturbance in Cork City on Friday evening
Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene of an incident on Oliver Plunkett Street just after 5pm. It is understood that the man, aged in his late 30s to early 40s, was assaulted with a bladed weapon shortly before he entered a café premises on Grand Parade.
One customer who was in the café at the time told CorkBeo she saw the injured man enter the premises at around 5.20pm, reportedly bleeding with slash and stab wounds to his head, arms, back and stomach.

The eyewitness shared that the man entered alone and sat down at a table not wearing a shirt and bleeding "severely" with what appeared to be very serious injuries. Customers in the café rushed to help the man while authorities were quickly alerted to the incident, with crew attached to the National Ambulance Service attending the scene on Oliver Plunkett Street.
The man was rushed to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. Gardaí taped off the entrance to the café on Friday evening following the incident, with the café expected to remain closed for the evening.
A Garda spokesperson told CorkBeo: "Shortly after 5pm on Friday, 6 September, Gardaí and emergency services responded to an incident on Oliver Plunkett Street in Cork City, where an adult male was seriously assaulted during a disturbance.
“He received treatment at the scene and was then transported to the hospital. His injuries are understood to be serious but not life-threatening. Gardaí are currently at the scene, which has been preserved for examination. Investigations are ongoing."
