Ireland international Ellen Molloy swaps Wexford for Sheffield United
Ellen Molloy was 16 years old when she made her senior Ireland debut in a 1-0 Euro qualification loss to Ukraine in 2020.
Sheffield United have swooped for Ireland international Ellen Molloy.
The Women’s Championship side have raided Wexford for the exciting 20-year-old prospect, whose career has been blighted by injury.
Molloy, an attacking midfielder, has been a regular goalscorer in the Women’s League of Ireland, with 39 to her name since her debut in 2020.
An ACL tear in September 2022 kept Molloy from the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
However, she returned to action this season and said of her move: “I'm delighted, I can't really believe it to be honest.
“I love the city, I got a really good feel for the club and everyone involved so I'm really excited to get started.”
Blades head coach Ash Thompson hailed the new arrival, saying: “We've worked really hard to bring Ellen in and we're really excited about what she's going to add to the squad.
“We've watched her closely and she's dynamic, has two great feet, can both score and create.
“You only have to look at what she's achieved in Ireland to know we're bringing in a really good player with a lot of potential and someone we think the fans will love watching.”
