All eyes will be on Cork singer Stephanie Rainey as she hopes to qualify for America’s Got Talent's semi-finals tonight.

The hit US talent show will see tens of millions of viewers tune into the quarter-finals this evening.

Stephanie and her best pal Sarah Power, from Kilkenny, who will accompany her on the piano, will aim to impress with her latest appearance on American TV.

"For us, it's just another chance to play another song to that many people," Rainey said on The Ray D'Arcy Show on RTÉ Radio 1.

"Whatever about the outcome, it's just that amount of exposure is an unreal thing to get to do. We just think of it in terms of songs. We get to do another one, and hopefully, we'll get to do another two after that or another one after that."

This evening, the pair are set to compete with 44 other acts. Performers can secure passage to the semis by either a public vote, or the coveted Golden Buzzer - with the latter granting contestants direct access to the grand final.

The 36-year-old from Glanmire has been wowing US audiences with her original music so far, having performed her tune Please Don’t Go earlier on in the competition.

The RedFM presenter wrote the song following the tragic death of her one-year-old nephew from meningitis – and originally released it nearly 10 years ago in 2015.

Speaking to Newstalk Breakfast in June, she said at the time: "I wrote the song, I suppose, about my experience of loss and grief and what the feeling is like," she said.

"I lost my nephew when I was a teenager.

"He was just about to turn one and we lost him suddenly and I think, just trying to get into words what it is that people experience when they lose somebody took me a long time – but Please Don't Go seems to have been the one.

"It came a couple of years after, I will say, but it just seemed to kind of capture the whole thing as I saw it and I think as a lot of people see it.

"So, the reaction to it now, it's very nice as an artist for people to come and find your song and find some comfort or something in it, you know?

"It's been nice to see people connecting to it again."

"Of all the new songs I've heard this year, this is the best by a mile," Simon Cowell said of Rainey's track, which received four 'yeses' from judges Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Sofía Vergara.

Cowell told Stephanie: "Even though it’s about something really sad, it is real – and your voice is beautiful.

"A lot of people are going to resonate with that song and you. I absolutely loved this."
