Midsomer Murders favourites Neil Dudgeon and Nick Hendrix dropped by This Morning for a cosy chat about the show's latest series that wrapped up this week.

Nick gushed about his colleague, saying: "Neil is an inspiration, he is a mentor figure really, a father figure. I have learned so much from him both from acting and in life." Alison Hammond joined the conversation with a cheeky comment, asking: "I hear he is doing his own stunts? ".

Nick responded with a hint of concern for Neil's wellbeing: "He does all kinds of stunts, but he has got a dodgy knee," and added, "As long as his knee is alright and his elbow.."

Neil then shared a behind-the-scenes anecdote: "I can't tell you who we were chasing after. There was a bit of a chase scene and they said, 'Well Nick is going to chase him all over Berkshire, and Neil you have just got to run around the table'.", reports the Express.

Reflecting on the physical demands, Neil recounted: "It was a brisk walk and we did it three of four times and it all went fine and then the night I got home and went, 'Oh my knee'."

In another candid moment, Neil, who stepped into the role of DCI John Barnaby, opened up about the daunting task of following John Nettles in the ITV hit. He confessed to Radio Times magazine that taking over in the 14th series came with its own set of fears, including the worry of being "cancelled" after his debut season.

"It was hard at the beginning because John [Nettles] had done it for 14 years," he admitted.

"If they'd cancelled me after one series, that would have been embarrassing! It gets easier, but I try to keep it fresh. Even if I've gone through the script 50 times, I'll look at it again and have another thought. It's still extremely pleasant and I'm extremely grateful."

The curtain came down on the latest series this Tuesday, but not everyone was over the moon with the new instalments, as a flurry of social media posts showed.

Fans of Midsomer Murders were left scratching their heads over a glaring age gap in DCI Barnaby's daughter Betty, played by Isabel Shaw, between seasons 22 and 23.

One baffled fan posted: "If ever I needed proof that there's always such a gap between episodes of #MidsomerMurders, it's seeing how Barnaby's daughter has gone from literal toddler to schoolgirl in a matter of no episodes at all."

"Betty has grown up so fast," commented another viewer, while someone else joked: "Betty must be the fastest-growing child in human history."

Some viewers also aired their grievances about the show's formulaic nature, calling for the producers to spice things up in the veteran drama series.
