Ryan Reynolds has spilled the beans on why ' Deadpool and Wolverine' got its title changed, revealing that the original name was scrapped after it was leaked and subsequently slammed by fans online.

The 47 year old star, alongside Hugh Jackman, 55, is set to return to the superhero realm in a much-anticipated Marvel flick. The pair will be seen teaming up for a multiverse-hopping escapade, but not before the film's title underwent a significant revamp due to some internet backlash.

Chatting on ' Jimmy Kimmel Live! where he and Jackman were guest co-hosts, Reynolds shared: "I've never told this story anywhere, but the movie was originally called 'Deadpool and Friend'. I am actually not joking."

He continued, recounting the leak drama: "On the eve of the Super Bowl, the Super Bowl is where we first launched the trailer for Deadpool - not Friend, but Wolverine - it leaked because of the internet. The title leaked. We looked at it and listened, and they hated that title. We were not feeling so good about that anymore."

Despite his determination to rename the movie, Reynolds admitted that getting Marvel Studios on board with the idea wasn't immediate. He confessed: "We were like, 'No, we're changing the title, I will never call this movie 'Deadpool and Friend'. And they did it, they did it. They really changed the title."

Before the title of his latest film was even a whisper on the web, Ryan Reynolds was already plotting to keep the juiciest details under wraps. The actor hatched a plan to shoot an entirely bogus movie, dubbed 'Alpha Cop', which was meant to be so atrociously bad it would send any potential leakers down the wrong path.

Reynolds spilled the beans to Hugh Jackman on 'Hot Ones', revealing: "The original idea with this movie to shoot a fake movie called 'Alpha Cop' that was intentionally bad." He went on to describe the ludicrous concept: "I even had one of the posters made - it was about two guys who are sharing one brain and together they make the ultimate cop. And the poster says, 'Alpha Cop: Two Cops, One Brain. All Balls.'".

Reynolds's masterstroke was to dupe audiences into thinking they were watching a cinematic disaster: "It was meant to be kind of like horrible, so 10 people in America would go see this movie on opening weekend and five minutes into the movie, the Marvel logo would flip up and it would actually be 'Deadpool and Wolverine'."
