Curtis Cup hero Sara Byrne has confirmed that she has turned professional.

Byrne went undefeated for Great Britain and Ireland last weekend as they beat the United States for the first time since 2016. The 23-year-old played in all five sessions in the Sunningdale showdown.

She will make her professional debut on a sponsor’s invitation at this week’s Rose Ladies Open at Brocket Hall in England, an event on the LET Access Tour hosted by Justin Rose and his wife Kate.

After finishing up her four years at the University of Miami, where she was on a golf scholarship, Byrne last month came through the first of the three qualifying school stages that have to be negotiated to make it onto the LPGA Tour next season.

A singles victory for Byrne was vital in GB&I's stunning victory in the Curtis Cup and it was the perfect place for the Cork golfer to finish a stellar amateur career that saw her finish up as a second team All-American.

"I am delighted to announce that I have officially turned pro," she tweeted on X, along with a video of her playing golf as a child.

"It feels surreal to know that nine-year-old Sara’s wildest dreams of being a professional golfer have just become a reality. I am so excited for this next part of my golfing journey. Cannot wait for the next step!"

The Douglas golfer picked up the Irish Golf Writers' Women's Amateur of the Year award last December, five years on from winning the trophy for the first time, after winning the Irish Close in the summer of 2023 - her second time winning the tournament.
