Arsenal star Katie McCabe has spoken about the 'hurt' her teammates felt at crashing out of the Champions League early doors last season.

Having reached the semi-final in the 2022/2023 season, the Gunners were expected to go deep into the tournament last season but failed to make it past the qualifying rounds as they were dumped out by Paris FC 4-2 om penalties in the second qualifying round.

McCabe's charges are all too familiar with the feeling of crashing out of the Champions League before it gets going properly, and are eager to avoid a similar fate when they begin their qualifying campaign against Rangers this evening.

"I think it really hurt us all as players, staff and the club not making it past that first round last year given we were so close the season previous in the semi-final in front of a sold-out Emirates against Wolfsburg," McCabe told BBC 5 Live.

"So, that hurt us. Rangers - by no means is it going to be easy. We need to be on the top of our game and we need to start this season fast.

"And we know as I said from last year what that felt like to not get through, so, we'll be doing our very best to make sure we're [ushing through into the Champions League."
