James Corden's behaviour on Gavin and Stacey set revealed by local shop owner
James Corden is reprising his role as Smithy for the BBC's beloved Gavin and Stacey and filming has already started in Barry Island in Wales for the series' Christmas finale
James Corden has been "really lovely" while filming the new series of Gavin and Stacey.
Fans of the beloved BBC show were in their element on Tuesday when the actor, 46, was spotted with Ruth Jones, who plays Nessa, and Joanna Page, who stars as Stacey, in Barry Island, which is just outside Cardiff.
In one of the snaps, James could be seen strolling along the Victorian promenade, sporting a lilac anorak, next to ice cream parlour, Scoop. The shop's owner said the Fat Friends star was a pleasure to be around as she opened up about spotting Smithy.
“We’ve been making ourselves known to anyone that will talk to us to be honest!” Laura Davenport, 38, from Barry said. "Because of where the shop is, we’ve kind of been on set almost. We waved madly at James and got him over to the shop. He’s really lovely, asking about the shop, saying that it was really lovely, really different."
“He was great, he had some photos with us – one of the girls that works for us is our baker so he had one of her brownies as well. He’s been lovely to everybody to be honest, all the fans, he’s had photos with them – so it’s been a great day," reports PA.

Fans can't wait until Christmas after the show's return was confirmed this summer. There haven't been any new episodes of the acclaimed BBC sitcom since the last special in 2019, but a return was finally announced in May. It was then revealed in July that the script had been completed and now the gang has started filming.
Ms Davenport said there was “a massive buzz” as a result of the show’s return, adding it was “great for business after a slow summer with the bad weather”.
She also said she was hopeful her shop, Scoop, would appear in the background during the Christmas special. “They’re going to be doing some shots later, so we’ll be in the back of some the shots as well,” she said. So yeah, really excited to potentially be on TV on Christmas Day!”
On Monday, James, whose character Smithy is tipped to get married to Nessa after the Welsh wonder's shock proposal in 2019, took to social media to get fans going before the show hits screens. The Late Late Show star uploaded a snap from behind the scenes as excitement builds.
James posted an image of the side of Smithy’s work van with the advert reading: "Smithy’s: if your husband won’t do it – I will… Tilin, roofin, plasterin, & feng shui. Call me on 07700978978." Alongside the snap of the unlucky-in-love handyman's vehicle, the actor wrote: "Day 1. Here we go x."
