Ireland hasn't seen much warm weather recently, but that's about to change as temperatures are forecast to rise to nearly 25C within days. While warm and sunny conditions are expected, rain will never be far away.

Ireland may not have seen much warm weather lately, but it seems that the country isn't quite ready to transition fully into autumn just yet. In an usual twist, new weather maps show the country basking in 24C temperatures in just a few days time.

After months of unsettled conditions, many people will be hoping for an 'Indian summer' - a term used to describe a period of unseasonably warm and dry weather during autumn.

Met Eireann has raised hopes that this is on the way. In an optimistic forecast is said "warm and humid" conditions will sweep across Ireland this weekend, coupled with "good sunny spells" and temperatures of up to 24C on Friday, September 6 and Saturday, September 7.

Weather maps appear to support this outlook, indicating a steady rise in temperatures as the week progresses. On Thursday, much of the country could see highs of around 20C, with the mercury potentially climbing even further, reaching almost 25C in the following days.

However it is not all good news, as rain is never far away. While the weather looks likely to turn warmer this weekend, it will be coupled with "a few heavy showers". The national forecaster as pinpointed areas in the east and south as places most likely to experience this.

In the meantime, today is expected to be mostly cloudy with some rain, but sunshine is expected towards the evening with temperatures of 15C to 18C. Tomorrow will see a mix of sunshine and showers, some potentially heavy, and temperatures of 14C to 17C.

The weather is then expected to take a turn from Thursday with warmer, sunny spells as well as some rain. Daytime temperatures of up to 24C is possible this weekend, and Met Eireann added it will feel "close and humid" after dark.

Giving a day-by-day breakdown of what to expect, the meteorological service said: "It looks set to become mostly cloudy across the eastern half of the country on Thursday with the chance of rain at times in Leinster and east Munster. Current indications suggest it will hold dry further west with good sunny spells, especially in Atlantic coastal areas. Maximum temperatures of 16C to 19C in moderate to fresh northerly winds. There is a chance of further rain or drizzle in parts of the east and south on Thursday night but it will be largely dry elsewhere. Areas of mist forming in light to moderate northwest winds. Lowest temperatures of 12C to 15C.

"Warm and humid on Friday with spells of sunshine in many areas. However, it looks set to be somewhat cloudier in southern coastal areas where there is the chance of rain and drizzle. Maximum temperatures generally ranging from 21C to 24C in moderate to fresh northerly winds. Close and humid on Friday night with areas of mist and fog forming in places. Whilst much of the country will be dry there is the potential for a few heavy downpours to develop in south Leinster and south Munster. Lowest temperatures of 12C to 15C with light to moderate northeast winds.

"Mist and fog lifting from most areas on Saturday morning to leave a mix of cloud and warm sunshine. It looks set to be mostly dry, but there is the chance of a few heavy showers, especially across the southern half of the country. Highest temperatures of 21C to 24C but a little cooler at the coast. Mist and fog may drift into coastal fringes at times. Humid and close on Saturday night with areas of mist and fog. The chance of a few heavy showers breaking out in the south of the country but most areas will be dry. Lowest temperatures of 13C to 16C in light northerly winds.

"Current indications suggest it will be rather cloudy on Sunday with the chance of a few showers. Highs of 16C to 20C."
