Dublin Communities Against Racism has expressed its “deepest concern” following two separate “disturbances” at a property on Ormond Quay, Dublin.

On Friday night at around 10:30pm, a man in his 40s was arrested over alleged public order offences following a disturbance in the city centre property with a number of items of evidential value seized by Gardaí. The man was subsequently released.

Separately, two men were rushed to the Mater Hospital on Saturday afternoon following a disturbance at the same property on Ormond Quay. Investigations into both of these disturbances are ongoing.

It is understood the property on Ormond Quay is a building where homeless asylum seekers have been living.

Video circulating on social media of the alleged disturbance on Saturday shows men exiting a property and being beaten with a stick. Another man can be seen exiting via a first-story window to escape.

DCAR told the Irish Mirror: "We condemn in the first place the failure of the Irish government to meet its international legal obligation to provide secure accommodation to asylum seekers who are instead routinely directed to the street where they are not even allowed to put a bit of canvas over their heads.

"Tents are routinely torn down by the authorities and personal possessions destroyed. Apparently, the government expects people to sleep in the rain."
