Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy rounded off their PGA Tour seasons in tandem as they both pocketed $1,608,333 pay cheques from the Tour Championship.

The Irish pair finished in a tie for ninth place at East Lake Golf Club to pocket a handsome share of the $100m bonus pool for the climax of the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Lowry's rounds of 69, 69, 65 and 68 saw him finish the tournament on 16-under-par, the same score as his Olympic teammate McIlroy, whose final round of 66 was his best of the week.

The FedEx Cup title and the mammoth $25,000,000 first prize went to Scottie Scheffler.

The world number one coasted home for a four-shot victory over Collin Morikawa to claim his seventh title of a dominant season on the PGA Tour.

It is the first time Scheffler has won the season-long race, having led going into the Tour Championship on two previous occasions.

He adds his $25 million bonus money to the $29,228,357 he earned in official money this season, the most in PGA Tour history.

McIlroy, won twice on the PGA Tour this season and finished with total earnings, including the FedEx Cup bonus, of $12,501,000.

Lowry, meanwhile, who combined with McIlroy to win the Zurich Classic, is $7,703,000 richer from his season on the PGA Tour.

Both players are set to take next week off before competing in the Irish Open at Royal County Down.
