Heart Radio star Jamie Theakston has undergone secret surgery.

The broadcaster who presents alongside Amanda Holden told fans he will be off air for some time. It comes after he has struggled with his voice in recent weeks. Jamie, who is often the first voice many hear in the morning told fans that he will be back on his feet in no time but needed time to recuperate following his operation.

Taking to Instagram in view of his 72,100 followers, the 53-year-old said: "Sooo – a few of you listeners have noticed my voice hasn't sounded right these past few weeks – I've got you to thank... Got it checked – Doctors found a lesion on my vocal chords which I've had removed this weekend – thanks for all the kind messages – should be back on my feet soon – in the meantime..." alongside a zipped-mouth emoji.

Famous pals and colleagues, as well as listeners instantly rushed to the comment section of Jamie's post to share their well wishes. Vicky Pattison typed: "Get well soon petal." Meanwhile, his co-star Amanda Holden added: "We will miss you tomorrow." Richard Bacon commented: "Oh wow, that happened to me once - all the best - I had about 10 days, but I wasn’t allowed to say a word. Quite weird and fascinating experience."

Davina McCall offered her support, penning: "Oh wow!!!!! Speedy recovery sweet cheeks x sending you big healing hugs." As pal Jamie Redknapp said: "Get well soon Jamo," alongside a red heart emoji. "Aww, so pleased you managed to get it checked out and removed. Wishing you a speedy recovery and look forward to hearing your voice again soon," one listener gushed.

Jamie became a household name as the presenter of Top of the Pops between 1998 and 2003, introducing artists such as the Spice Girls and Oasis during their performances on the BBC show. However, he launched his career aged just 23 in the radio industry. The broadcaster was talent spotted by the former BBC head of sport who roped him in to present Greater London's Radio Saturday Sports Show.

But in 2002, Jamie left his role at Radio 1 to focus on a career in acting, having starred in the likes of Little Britain and Agatha Christie's Marple. He returned to his radio routes in 2005, replacing Jonathan Coleman on Heart Breakfast. Since then, Jamie has appeared on the station over the years, before the programme went national on June 3, 2019.
