Johnny Logan has paid a heartfelt tribute to fanatical Bohs fan Ger Byrne who passed away last week.

Byrne inspired Bohs to adopt Logan's hit song 'Hold Me Now' as their club anthem around twenty years ago, and it continues to be sung at Dalymount Park.

In this way, Byrne was responsible for Eurovision King Logan becoming attached to the club and supporting various fundraisers over the years.

Many tributes have been paid to Byrne, a much-loved member of the Bohs community, and now the club has released a video Logan made for Ger on the day of his funeral.

Logan said: "Hi Henry, Colin, Phillip, Patricia and Pauline, I can't imagine what you guys are going through at the moment.

"Matt got in touch with me and asked me if I could be at the funeral, but unfortunately, I am working in Spain, so I wanted to do a little video.

"First of all I would like to thank Ger for introducing me to the Bohs. It has and continues to mean an awful lot to me.

"I take great pride in the fact that 'Hold Me Now' is used. The guys sing it at the matches.

"I just found a thing that I read when I did a charity for Franz Beckenbauer and it just reminded me of something that gave me comfort at the time because I was thinking of my own brother, Mick.

"'If you are looking for me, look for me in your hearts. Once I have found a home there, I will live on in you.'"

The singer then dedicated 'Hold Me Now' to Ger and played an emotional acoustic rendition of the classic song.

Bohemian FC President Matt Devaney paid tribute to Byrne this week, writing: "Ger was my friend and we will all miss him dearly.

"He was without doubt the funniest bloke I knew, and over the past week or so we have all reminisced and remembered some of his great gags and brilliant stories; Ger could literally write a book on his adventures from the Congo to Botswana.

"I was lucky to be his friend, I was lucky to have travelled the length and breadth of the country and indeed Europe following Bohs and sharing unbelievable experiences with him.

"It is at times like this that the Bohs family really shines through and looks after our own and Ger’s brothers Phil and Col and especially his Dad Henry, who are all Bohs stalwarts, will need our support over the coming weeks and months.

"Ger is more broadly known as the man who introduced Hold Me Now to Bohs, what an incredible legacy to leave behind.

"Every time his friends and family will hear that from now on, it will remind us of what a special person he was."
