Arsenal were left furious after two incidents involving Wolves’ Yerson Mosquera, who appeared to grab at Kai Havertz’s throat before groping Gabriel Jesus’ backside.

The Gunners began the new Premier League season with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton on Saturday. Havertz opened the scoring shortly before the half-hour mark after a splendid assist from Bukayo Saka. The England international then bagged himself a goal with a sublime finish to open his 2024/25 account in the second-half.

But the Emirates affair was hardly cordial between the two sides after two incidents involving the 23-year-old Mosquera.

The first incident began innocuously enough after Mosquera did well to dispossess Havertz.

However, as the German international fell to the ground, he reached out to grab Mosquera by the neck in an attempt to regain control.

Mosquera wasn't pleased, initially placing his hand high on the chest of the German. As he was giving Havertz some verbals, he stumbled, and proceeded to try and stop his fall with his hands around the neck of Havertz.

The Arsenal forward proceeded to make the most of the contact and looked in some distress.

Mosquera swiftly removed his hands, but the moment was enough to warrant questions about whether the Wolves player strayed into violent conduct territory.

However referee Jarred Gillett and VAR Paul Tierney deemed the conduct to be okay and the Colombian was permitted to play on without accruing any punishment.

But Mosquera was back in the spotlight when he appeared to bizarrely grab at Jesus’ backside while the striker was adjusting his boots.

The Brazilian was visibly outraged by his opponents’ actions and shoved Mosquera out of the way. Much to his bemusement, Jesus was booked in the process.

Arsenal are tipped as favourites once again to challenge for the Premier League title this season, and their performance against Wolves evidenced why that is so.

Mikel Arteta ’s side return to Premier League action on August 24 when they face Unai Emery ’s Aston Villa.
