Helen Flanagan reveals why she

Flirty and quirky Helen Flanagan has her sights set on an older, mature man in her hunt for a perfect partner. The former Coronation Street star, 34, has been single for two years since splitting from footballer fiancé Scott Sinclair, 35, father of their three children.

Helen, who played Rosie in Corrie, admits she needs help after online dating failures so has called in experts to work their magic. She stars in a new series of Celebs Go Dating, where matchmakers pair stars with non-celeb partners. Helen, who has also had two stints on I’m A Celebrity, says she brings her own brand of drama and chaos to the E4 show but is ready to date again.

And she certainly knows what she wants – someone different to her past partners. She says: “I like an older man because I feel like they are more emotionally mature, a bit more sensitive.

“When I go on a date I like it to be with someone who’s maybe been through divorce and who has kids because I feel like they understand me a bit better. I love funny guys, I feel like a good energy is important. The milf needs a dilf!” Helen split from Bristol Rovers footballer Scott in 2022 after 13 years together. They have daughters Matilda, nine, and Delilah, seven, as well as son Charlie, five.

She says she wants it to feel “easy” with the next man she falls for. “I could never ever have another relationship where I was bickering, I haven’t got an argument left in me. “It needs to be easy. I feel as well, and a lot of single mums will relate to this, you work hard to make it work with the father of your children, and I really did. I haven’t got it in me, I did all that with the father of my kids, I don’t have the energy.” Enlisting the help of Celebs Go Dating, Helen is hoping agents Paul Carrick Brunson, Anna Williamson and Dr Tara Su can help her find the man of her dreams.

Helen is looking forward to putting herself out there. “I’ve been single for about two years and I think I need a bit of help, to be honest with you. “It’s been a bit of a disaster, it’s probably just one long cringe! Being single is an eye opener, there are some awful men out there. “I did go on a few dates from an app and it was hilarious. I don’t really get nervous dating, I probably should have been but I just thought it’s been fun. And also, I’m a single mum of three, so to have a night off has been fun. I am feeling confident right now. “I would say I’m quite flirty. I feel like some guys get me or they don’t. I think I’m quite a quirky girl, so some guys even like that and get me or some guys are a bit like, ‘What? Is she OK?’ Despite her previous heartbreak, Helen still dreams of tying the knot. “I’m definitely a romantic and want to get married one day.”

But any man who wants to woo Helen will first have to win the approval of her children, who are the devoted mum’s top priority. “I’ve got children to protect. Matilda, she’s a real daddy’s girl. She goes to sleep with a picture of her dad every night. She loves her dad so much, so I am always careful with what I say. I have that respect for them.

“If I was to introduce someone to the kids then they would have to be very special. The kids would have to like him. I feel like that saying, happy mum, happy baby, is right.” Helen promises to bring the drama to the Celebs Go Dating agency. She was nearly thrown off the show after breaking the rules. “I can’t say too much because I don’t want to ruin the storyline but I don’t think anything is out of character for me. My life is always chaos and I just bring that chaos to Celebs Go Dating. I can’t help it.”

As well as going on her own journey of self-discovery, Helen hopes her being on the show inspires other single mums to start going on dates. “My Celebs Go Dating experience has been really empowering, especially being a mum as well. It was really exciting and I’ve made memories. It’s given me confidence but that will probably be shattered when I watch it back.”

Celebs Go Dating is on Mondays on E4 at 9pm
