Adama Traore has hit back at Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez after the Argentina international joked about the Fulham star following their contest at Old Trafford
Adama Traore is already licking his lips at the prospect of facing Manchester United star Lisandro Martinez once again after the defender joked about their Old Trafford battle.
The defender lined up as a full-back in United's first game of the season as they welcomed Fulham to the north west on the opening day of 2024/25. Joshua Zirkzee's debut goal earned the Red Devils three points as Erik ten Hag's side recorded a clean sheet.
Martinez proved the victor in the battle down the byline as he had to adjust to Traore's qualities, while getting used to a position he rarely plays. Speaking to Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane following the game, the Argentina international joked: "I sent him to the gym!"
"He is difficult to play against and I learned from the first situation," he added. "In the first situation he killed me but then I killed him back."
Traore has proven undaunted from the meeting and is already counting down to his next opportunity to face Martinez. The former Barcelona and Wolves star took to Instagram to set up their next battle.
Posting on his Instagram story, Traore displayed a photograph from training as he ensured to show off his physique. The 28-year-old winger sent an accompanying message that read: "Don't worry. We will meet again @lisandromartinezzz".
Martinez's post-match interview did not see his jokes end there however. The defender was quite happy to call out Carragher for his previous criticsim too.
Neville enquired about how Martinez has adjusted to the league since joining United. The pundit said: "When you first came to the Premier League there were a lot of comments about you because of the physicality of this league, how have you found it?"
Martinez quickly pointed at Carragher as he retorted: "You mean from him?"
The 26-year-old former Ajax star provided a composed reponse however. Martinez believes dealing with such noise is part of his job at the highest level.
"As a player we are ready for everything," he explained. "Criticise. It is part of our job. If you are here for excuses, you are not ready for this club. If you play bad, be ready for criticism.
"I was ready for that. I always believe in myself and my strength. I know I not really tall, but I will win, show with personality that I am there on the pitch."
