David Clifford's class was on full show as he helped his club Fossa to a Championship quarter-final win on Saturday night.

Fossa ran out winners by 1-14 to 0-13 over Kerins O'Rahilly's to book their place in the semi-finals of the Kerry Intermediate Championship.

Clifford scored 0-5 in the game and showed incredible skill to assist another point as he somehow managed to pick out a teammate while on the ground with his back to him as he kicked the ball over his head away from goal. It was picked up by his teammate, who kicked over for a score.

The piece of skill was lauded by many people on social media, with one person writing: "Just an average day of the genius that is David Clifford. Eyes on the back of his head."

Another said: "Another one for the David Clifford highlight reel - something a little different."

One other comment read: "David Clifford provided further evidence that he is a genius tonight against Kerins O'Rahillys."

It comes just days after the Kerry star defended the GAA split season amid criticism.

He told the Independent: "Everyone knows about the new split season structure. So you finish out your county season and then you move swiftly to your club season. In terms of the off-season, it just depends how successful your teams are.

“Thinking back to last year, we (Fossa) played Milltown in the Intermediate final around November 18 I think, so you probably had whatever was left in 2023, and then you were kind of getting back at it in January.

“It’s probably again a conversation to be had then between ourselves and management, depending on how far your club has went.

“Generally, you want to get three or four weeks off the pitch.

“The beauty of the club season is while you’re putting 110 percent and everything into Fossa, you can still of course do things that you wouldn’t be able to do in the Kerry season.

“You can go on holidays midweek and be back for a game at the weekend, or maybe go out with the team after the game when you mightn’t be doing that for every game with Kerry.

“While there’s more action, and it’s busier, I just think you can still live a bit of your life while you’re involved with a club team, whereas it’s just a bit more full-on with the county scene. That’s the simple fact of it really.”

Beaten in last year's final, Clifford and Fossa will be hoping they can go one better this time around.
