Man Utd told to go all out for Liverpool target

Manchester United should make a move for cut-price Italy star Federico Chiesa, says ex-Red Devils striker Louis Saha.

The Juventus ace's agent recently travelled to England, hoping to broker a deal with a Premier League club for his client, but left empty-handed.

If this had happened after Chiesa's world-beating Euro 2020 performances, however, clubs would have been champing at the bit to recruit him - as Liverpool attempted to do with a swiftly rejected £85million bid in 2021.

Chiesa has suffered a dramatic fall from grace. His performances at club level have been subpar and he was a non-factor at Euro 2024 for Italy. With his deal in Turin set to expire next summer, the winger has been offered up at a heavily reduced price, and Saha believes the Red Devils should pounce.

Ten Hag's frontline could use some reinforcements, with Rasmus Hojlund sidelined for the beginning of the upcoming Premier League season and both Jadon Sancho and Antony out of favour.

"Manchester United should go and sign Federico Chiesa from Juventus," Saha told csdb.gg. "I love him as a player, he is so passionate and will cause plenty of trouble for the opposition whether he is at the top of his game or not."

The frustrated Chiesa is part of a summer clear-out at Juventus as the club looks to offload eight first-team players under Thiago Motta's new regime.

Combine the player's reluctance to sign a new deal with his lacklustre outings, and the Old Lady have been forced to label Chiesa with a rough price tag £20m - which could go as low as £15m - according to Corriere dello Sport.

"He always tries to upset the opposition and he would be a great target for United," Saha continued. "They have creative players, but none that can match what he can do.

"Another player I love is [Barcelona-bound] Dani Olmo, who proved how good he was at Euro 2024, these are the types of players that United need, those who take risks and make life much easier for strikers.

"Alejandro Garnacho did so well last year but he’s so young and had to play almost every minute. If you have others you can keep him fresh. Chiesa is the type of player who could get United into the title race, Erik ten Hag needs to be looking at players like him."

Ten Hag's side have already spent heavily this window, bringing in 18-tear-old French starlet Leny Yoro for £58m and Dutch forward Joshue Zirkzee for £36.5m. A cheaper deal for a player like Chiesa may, therefore, suit new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe as he looks to improve on United's worst-ever league finish last campaign.
