Woman mocks 'silly' mum who gave twin girls 'confusing' names that made lives difficult

When it comes to naming twins, some parents give them completely different monikers to avoid confusion.

Others, however, play into it and give them 'matching' names. That's exactly what one mum decided to do when she learnt she was having twin girls - but the idea only caused confusion wherever they went together throughout their childhood.

Taking to Reddit, a woman shared how she went to high school with twins called Alana and Alana - a name of Irish origin - saying she'll never forget about them because of their 'silly' matching names. She said: "[They were] pronounced Uh-Lah-Nuh and Uh-Lay-Nuh. Teachers and other kids had a hard time remembering."

Due to this, the children in her school started to identify them via their appearance instead, as she explained how one was born with a disability.

She added: "The worst part is one of the twins had a disability that caused her to have underdeveloped arms and she wrote using a pen in her mouth. So when you were referring to one of them and someone asked, 'Which twin?' There was an obvious difference most people pointed out."

While most users slammed the parents for the 'silly' idea, others questioned how it's legal to give two children from the same family the same name, especially when they're twins. Commenting on her post, one user said: "Surely if the parents were to do that they would change a letter for example Alayna and Alana so it’s more obvious."

Another user added: "How was this even legally allowed? Their mail and background/credit card checks must be an absolute disaster. Those poor girls. Elena and Alana were right there too! Still too similar for comfort because if you don’t enunciate, the 'el' Will come out as 'ul' but at least it's not the exact same name and the middle syllable would be more distinguishable."

A third user said: "Oh man, I have to speak up about medical errors when twins have names that are only one letter apart, because getting an emergency, Kayleigh looks a lot like Kyaleigh. This will not end well if they both get taken to the ER at the same time." One more user added: "I knew twins who were Justine and Justina."
