Film-makers have invited Holly Willoughby to work with them on a TV documentary and drama about her death threat ordeal.

A leading American production company wants the TV presenter to talk on camera about Gavin Plumb’s plot to kidnap, rape and murder her. Plumb was last week sentenced to a minimum jail term of 16 years. Sources say US TV bosses, who have made a series of high-profile true crime dramas, are also keen to make a feature-length film about the case.

They are said to have approached Holly’s Roxy Management team last week. One source said: "Holly has been asked if she wishes to take part in the documentary and be involved in the drama as an adviser. They are conscious of how transformative Holly’s involvement could be."

It is understood that talks about the documentary are already under way, and Plumb’s friends and family have discussed taking part. Sources say Holly’s friends, family and colleagues will also be approached to talk about the impact the case had on her. The source said: "Holly’s reaction to this has been that she wants this whole thing to now go away.

"It has been a horrible time for her and she has really struggled with it at points. It’s a question of whether or not she wants to be involved, or let it ride out." A spokesperson for Holly declined to comment.

On Friday, Plumb muttered "15 years to kill myself" as he was led to the cells wearing a grey sweatshirt but remained impassive as the sentence was handed down.

The 37-year-old gave evidence at Chelmsford Crown court last month where he was accused of soliciting murder, incitement to rape and incitement to kidnap in relation to Holly. Plumb denied all the charges after he was accused of attempting to live out his "ultimate fantasy" and was described by the prosecution as someone who had an "obsession" with the former This Morning host. However, the jury found him guilty after he took the stand to give evidence.

After Plumb was sentenced, Nicola Rice, a specialist prosecutor in the Crown Prosecution Service, said: "The sentence handed down to Gavin Plumb ensures he will remain in prison, where he can no longer threaten or harm women. There is no doubt Gavin Plumb posed a real danger and the CPS proved that his plans to kidnap, rape and murder Holly Willoughby were more than mere fantasy and he had every intention of encouraging others to help him."
