Ireland weather: Washout week

Met Éireann has forecast a washout week filled with showers and drizzle but one weather expert has suggested there is still “uncertainty” around Saturday at the moment.

The coming days will be quite changeable and unsettled according to the national forecaster, although temperatures will remain warm where sunshine gets through the cloud, with drizzle, rain or showers forecast for almost every day this week.

Friday sets itself apart as a mostly dry day with sunny spells and only scattered cloud, however, Met Éireann has suggested this sunshine will be short-lived, moving off for Saturday when rain develops again.

Instead, Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather has said there is “a lot of uncertainty around Saturday still” when it comes to the forecast. Meanwhile, here is Met Éireann’s forecast for the rest of the week:

Tuesday

Warm and mostly dry apart from an isolated shower. Sunny spells developing more widely as the day progresses. Highest temperatures of 17C to 22C in light to moderate west to northwest breezes.

Largely dry with clear spells apart from the isolated light shower. Lowest temperatures of 8C to 13C, in light southwest or variable breezes.

Wednesday

Sunny spells early on tomorrow, but becoming cloudier from the west with scattered outbreaks of light rain and drizzle developing mainly along Atlantic coasts.

The rain and drizzle becoming more persistent along Atlantic coastal counties by evening time. Many eastern areas will stay fully dry with sunny spells. Humid with highs of 17C to 22C. Southerly breezes light or moderate in strength but strong along Atlantic coasts.

Scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading from the west overnight. Mild with temperatures not falling below 13C to 15C, in light to moderate southerly breezes.

The rain will be unrelenting this entire week

Thursday

Scattered outbreaks of rain or drizzle clearing from the west through the day with spells of sunshine developing. Mostly dry conditions developing though the evening. Highest temperatures of 17C to 22C, warmest in the south, in light westerly breezes.

Mostly dry overnight with clear spells. Cloud increasing in the northwest towards dawn with light or drizzle developing. Lowest temperatures of 9C to 12C, with light southerly winds backing southerly towards morning.

Friday

A mostly dry day with sunny spells and scattered cloud. Quite warm in sunshine with highest temperatures of 18C to 23C, with light to moderate southwesterly breezes.

Saturday

Current indications suggest that Saturday will have rain develop in the west early on and gradually spread eastwards through the day. Highest temperatures of 17C to 20C, with moderate to fresh southerly winds, veering westerly with the rain.
