Aaron Rodgers has confirmed he was enjoying a summer trip to Egypt when he unexpectedly missed a compulsory New York Jets minicamp as he provided some rare insight into his offseason.

After bowing out of the latest season due to a torn Achilles suffered during Week 1, the four-time NFL MVP is plotting his return. It was after much hype and 18 seasons at Green Bay that he moved to MetLife Stadium, just to sustain his injury within the opening four plays of his first game against the Buffalo Bills.

Rodgers will be looking to shift focus away from his injury nightmare when he returns to action in 2024. But his controversial decision to skip the inaugural training of the mandatory minicamp left him facing scrutiny.

While chatting with NBC Sports during the American Century Classic, he finally spilled the beans about his vacation, saying: "Had a beautiful trip to Egypt. This is like the last marker. Summer's over on Sunday. Walking up on 18 (18th hole at American Century Championship) is super bittersweet, but it's fun to be out."

Undeniably, the pressure will be considerably high on the 40-year-old to show that his prolonged absence hasn't impacted his on-field ability. Talking about his current fitness levels, he said: "My Achilles feels good, you know, I felt really good at the end of last year. Then you know, there's always that kind of plateau part. It's just about getting back into it. I felt good".

The former Packers fan favourite is set to make a valid return to the Jets' camp for training on July 23, hopefully with no more false starts this time around. Robert Saleh, New York's head coach, previously addressed the player's notable absence from the mandatory minicamp, denying any internal unrest over his actions.

He assured Jets fans by saying: "Aaron and I are on the exact same page. There's no issue between Aaron or his teammates, for that matter. We addressed it yesterday. It's more of an issue for everyone outside the building than it is inside."

Emphasising his eagerness ahead of his second season at MetLife Stadium, Rodgers clearly expressed his anticipation to finally show off his renowned skills in the coming term. During his interview on SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio, he declared: "I love it. We are must-watch TV. And that's pretty obvious."

He further explained, "Everybody knows that. Whether you love me or hate me, people wanna see me play. They enjoy watching me play. And we are a team to watch this year. Not surprising. Six prime-time games in the first 11 or 12 weeks. I love it. You know, make it difficult."
