One of Jay Slater's best friends has spoken out after the tragic news police had found a body presumed to be that of the missing teenager on Monday.

Lucy Law said she was "lost for words" following Monday's major update that human remains had been discovered. The teenager was holidaying with Jay in Tenerife at the time he disappeared, and was first to raise the alarm after he called her on the morning he vanished to say he was lost in the remote area near Masca.

In a heartbreaking post on social media, Lucy paid tribute to her friend who she described as "one of a kind". Sharing her grief on Instagram, Lucy said: "Honestly lost for words."

"Always the happiest and most smiley person in the room, you was one of a kind Jay and you'll be missed more than you know. I'm sure you'll 'have your dancing shoes polished and ready' waiting for us all. We all love you buddy. Fly high."

The Civil Guard confirmed on Monday that searchers had found a body in a ravine close to where the 19-year-old was last located in the remote Rural de Teno park. While an autopsy is set to be carried out on Tuesday, authorities believe they have found Jay.

Lucy's post came as other loved ones shared their devastation at the news. Close friend Brad Hargreaves also posted an emotional tribute on Instagram after the tragic news. He penned: "No words. Nothing will be the same without you Rest easy brother love you always."

Brad also posted a public story with another picture of the two of them along with broken heart emojis. Jessica Rogers, the girlfriend of Jay Slater's brother, posted a photograph of Jay with a blue love heart following the news, accompanied by the words: 'Will love you forever'.

A post-mortem is to take place on Tuesday, it's understood, with the Civil Guard reporting to a nearby court set to receive the results. A judicial source said at the start of the month: "This missing persons' case has been judicialised as is normal in Spain and it's been lodged at Court of Instruction Number One in Icod de los Vinos. The Civil Guard don't have to tell the judge about everything officers are doing but will be keeping her updated on case progress and of course update her on any significant developments."

In a statement issued on Monday, the Civil Guard said: "After 29 constant days of searching, the lifeless body of the young man has been found in the Masca area. The discovery has been possible thanks to the tireless and discreet search carried out by the Civil Guard over these 29 days."

The tragic development, meanwhile, has seen a boost in GoFundMe donations to the page set up by Miss Law to initially help with the search. Heartbroken members of the public have sent their condolences and messages of support on the fundraiser, which has now raised more than £56,000.
