Alex Agius Saliba will be contesting for the post of Labour Party leader for party affairs, the MEP announced on Friday.

His candidacy was made possible after the PL changed the statute for the third time in 8 years, again allowing MPs and MEPs to run for the post.

In a post on Facebook, Agius Saliba said he has worked in the Labour Party structures since he was 15 years old, adding he had always works without personal interests or ambition.

He said he is contesting for the post to be vacated by Daniel Micallef in a bid to strengthen the party’s structures, enabling it to continue working in the best interests of the country.

He promised that he will be carrying out the job, if elected, to change what needs to be changed and build on all the good that has been created in the past years.

Nominations open Friday and close on Sunday.

The election will be held on 13 September.
