Mike Tyson admits he 'blanked out' and can't remember Jake Paul fight
Mike Tyson lost to Jake Paul last month and now admits he doesn't remember large parts of his first professional boxing fight for almost 20 years
Mike Tyson has admitted he can't remember a large chunk of the Jake Paul fight.
Tyson made his return to the ring last month for his first professional fight for almost 20 years. He was ultimately beaten on points by YouTuber Paul with the boxing legend barely landing a punch over the eight rounds. And now Tyson, 58, has admitted he can't remember anything about the fight after the first round.
"I don't remember the fight that much, I kind of blanked out," he told Fox Sports Radio. "I haven't watched the fight. You know what I remember... coming back from the first round and Jake was doing some sort of bow... that's the last thing I remember." He went on to say: "I wasn't tired, I wasn't sweaty. I went to the house we were staying in, I left the house with my wife and kids, went to the after-party then went back."
Tyson quickly tired in the fight and Paul later admitted to taking it easy on the boxing legend. Asked if he pulled his punches, Paul said: "Yeah, definitely. Definitely a bit. You know, I wanted to give the fans a show, but I didn't want to hurt someone that didn't need to be hurt. I couldn't really get him to engage me or slip shots and do something super cool or whatever, but I don't care about what people have to say. They're always going to have something to say and that it is what it is."
Tyson later claimed he had almost died in the build-up to the fight after suffering an ulcer flare-up on a flight. “This is one of those situations when you lost but still won,” he said. “I’m grateful for [Friday] night and have no regrets about getting in the ring one last time.
“I almost died in June; I had eight blood transfusions. I lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won. To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish eight rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for.”
More recently, Tyson insisted he was not tired during the fight. Speaking to 7News at a pop-up event in Miami, the 58-year-old said: “Magically. It just happened so quick. Eight round were over fast. I wasn’t tired. I wasn’t sweating. I didn’t understand that." But Tyson's son Amir revealed his dad was struggling. “His gas tank after the third round was just shot, " said." That’s all it was. He just kept on staying throughout. He did his best. No holding back, he did the best he could at his age.”
