Tributes have been paid to a man (37) who died following a single-vehicle road crash in Co Clare on Sunday morning.

The collision, which involved a car, took place in Kilmurry McMahon, Kilrush on Sunday, November 24th just after 3am. The driver of the car, a man in his 30s, was fatally injured during the incident.

He has been named locally as Darragh ‘Bob’ Rigney (37) from Ennis Road, Kilmihil, Co. Clare. Locals said Darragh was a keen rally driver.

Paying tribute the Irish Drift Championship said ‘’We are saddened to hear of the passing of one of our drivers Darragh Rigney, who we knew as Bob. Our condolences go out to his family and friends, may he rest in peace’’.

Another friend said ‘he really was one of a kind, always the most gentlest, kindest dote of a man that I had the privilege to know all these years since teenagers. Life is so unfair, may you get the best bed in heaven Bob and mind all your family from above and take care of us all. You’ll be missed dearly. Thinking of Liz, Eamon, David, Damien, Declan, his partner, and all the family at this horrendous time.

Another said ‘’We had such a laugh with him at the awards night, such a nice man. He would always call into our tent for a chat at Idc rounds and practice days. RIP bob’’.

He is survived by his parents Eamon and Liz, brothers Damian, David and Declan, his partner Tracey (O’Dea) and sisters Anna and Holly. His remains will repose at his family this Tuesday evening 26th November from 5 o’clock to 8 o’clock. His Requiem Mass will take place on Wednesday 27th November at 12 noon. Followed by burial in Reilig Nua.

A garda spokesperson said: “Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 3am and 7am are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí. “Anyone with any information is asked to contact Kilrush Garda Station on 065 908 0550, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.”
