Radio star Ian Dempsey opens up about two stone weight loss after taking Ozempic

Today FM star Ian Dempsey has opened up about taking Ozempic – saying he wouldn’t advise anyone to take it other than what it is prescribed for.
The radio presenter was diagnosed with type-2 diabetes in 2012 and in recent years was prescribed Ozempic by his GP, which he injects once a week.
The medication caused him to lose over two stone in weight but dulled his love of food.

Opening up about being on the drug, he said: "It was designed to help people with type-2 diabetes, but it does make you less interested in food. Come six o’clock in the evening, I might think, 'that dinner looks great but I'm just not hungry? I certainly wouldn't recommend (Ozempic) for anything other than what it is prescribed for.
“I believe that I now will be taking it forever. In the wake of my diagnosis in 2012, I was watching everything I ate but I'm more relaxed about it now.
“It's very manageable now and I suppose it could develop into something more serious as I get older, but so far all is good.”
Ian told the RTE Guide that he has no plans to retire and will hope to continue working on radio for as long as Larry Gogan did.
The 64-year-old said: “I know that I say this all the time, but I still love getting up at 4.30am every morning," he says. "I have my alarm clock at the other side of the room, so I must get out of bed to turn it off.
“But I jump out of the bed every morning and I have never once said, 'What am I still doing this for?' I still have the energy to do it. I'm a little bit like the late, great Larry Gogan, who I always admired.
“Larry was born to do what he did, and I feel the same. It's a natural thing for me. People will have to give up on me rather than me giving up on them. Otherwise, I feel great, and the health is good, touch wood,” he added.
