Katie Taylor to be handed boxing suspension after Amanda Serrano win
Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano battled it out in an all out war over ten rounds for Taylor's super-lightweight world championships, with the Bray Bomber winning by unanimous decision
Katie Taylor looks set to be handed a 30-day suspension from boxing following her win over Amanda Serrano.
The Bray Bomber retained her WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO and IBO light-welterweight belts against the Puerto Rican fighter on Friday night after a unanimous decision on the co-main event of Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson, but the contest at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The win wasn’t without it’s controversy as the champion and the challenger put on a gruelling brawl over the course of the full 10 rounds, before Taylor was given a 95-94 unanimous decision by all three ringside judges, with some boos ringing around the stadium on announcement.

However, 36-year-old Serrano felt hard done by due to the fact that her opponent was deducted a point due to a headbutt in the eighth round, which further opened up a horrific cut from a clash of heads earlier.
Speaking in the ring after the bout, Serrano said: "I knew when it went to the judges it was going to be a little shady. Listen, I chose to fight. I went up three divisions. I lost in two and I dared to be great tonight. I am the featherweight champion of the world. I want to be great. I only fight the best. It is what it is. I'm a featherweight.
"Every time you get a cut it hurts. You get blood in your eye. She kept headbutting me, but we knew that from the very beginning, the first fight. It's not only my fight, she did it with Chantelle Cameron." Taylor refuted claims of dirty tactics during the post-fight presser, explaining: "It was completely accidental.
"They’re calling me a dirty fighter and whatever but that wasn’t purposely done. Obviously I’m in there fighting like she is and it’s a rough sport. Sometimes you get head clashes. You have to fight through those things. This is the fight game."
Both Taylor and Serrano will be suspended by the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration for at least 30 days after the bout, which insists that all fighters shall receive a mandatory rest period of three days of rest for each round fought, with at least a seven-day mandatory minimum rest period.
As the two went full 10 rounds, they will now be out of action for at least a month, although they could be out longer depending on any injuries that they may have endured during the bout. That's because the TDLR adds: "Any medical suspension will be based on the physician’s recommendation."
Friday's bout was not the first time that the two women had met in the squared-circle, with Taylor previously defending her lightweight titles over Serrano at Madison Square Garden in April 2022. A far closer state of affairs, Taylor beat Serrano via split-decision after an another 10 hard-fought rounds.
Elsewhere on the night, 'The Problem Child' Paul bolstered his professional boxing record to 11-1 after besting Tyson over the course of eight two-minute rounds in the main event of the evening. Tyson, 58, looked like a shell of his former self when he entered the ring against Paul, 31 years his junior, and was picked apart at will by the YouTuber-turned-boxer.
