Amanda Serrano backtracks on Katie Taylor headbutt claims
The Puerto-Rican fighter has softened her stance in the 36 hours or so since the Katie Taylor bout.
Amanda Serrano has backtracked on her claims that Katie Taylor intentionally tried to headbutt her during their epic fight on Friday night.
Taylor got the better of Serrano by tight unanimous decision in another epic bout. However, the fight was tarnished somewhat by a number of accidental head clashes between the pair which left Serrano with a nasty cut over her right eye.
Taylor was subsequently docked a point in the 8th round for leading with her head but still did enough in the eyes of the judges to pick up a 95-94 win on all three cards.

Serrano's camp were furious during and after the contest, with her coach Jordan Maldonado saying: "She’s so dirty, she leads with her head man, she’s such a nice person outside [the ring] but when she goes in there, she’s so dirty." Serrano echoed these comments post-fight when she said: “She kept headbutting me. It’s what she does. It’s not just my fight, it’s all her fights. It’s what she does.”
Firing back in her post-fight press conference, Taylor denied any assertions that the head clashes were intentional: "It just happens sometimes, when you're fighting against a southpaw especially. The fighters come in close and it just happens.
"It was completely accidental. I think they're calling me a dirty fighter or whatever, but that wasn't purposely done."
Taking to social media a day after the contest, Serrano apologised for insinuating that Taylor was purposely using her head and showed respect to her legendary foe.
"Congratulations to @KatieTaylor in her decision win," began a statement posted by Serrano on social media.
"Tempers are flared when you’re in the heat of battle & you say things you shouldn’t say. I’m not one to ever disrespect an opponent & these were never my intentions to Katie.
"She & I are cool outside the ring and the best dance partners in the ring. In no way should I ever had said she did it purposely, it’s her style that makes for them I’m Not perfect and though I try my hardest to be the nicest person I can be I’m human & being emotionally hurt can sometimes misguide you in what you say.
"I’m ok, I’m heathy a bit bruised and cut but still blessed beyond belief. We both came out with our health intact & that’s what I prayed for. Whenever our teams can agree on a Trilogy I’ll be ready. I hope you guys all enjoyed women’s boxing at its highest level."
