Linda said: “A few weeks ago we had the absolute privilege of welcoming good friend Adam Clayton to the Hub for an afternoon of tea, chats & fun with all of our gorgeous dogs.
“From the moment Adam arrived it was pure joy - with a beaming smile, he conversed so intently with all of the staff at the Hub.
“He was so inquisitive about our work, how the dogs come into our care & he specifically asked about each dog as he passed by their kennel.
“Adam was full of praise for our staff & all the work we do to help the wonderful dogs and as a big animal man.. he was truly heartbroken listening to some of the sad cases that we have had in our care recently.
“He wanted to take all of the dogs home and even took a special liking to little Cookie," she wrote on social media.
Linda revealed that as they finished up for the afternoon, Adam noticed someone had dropped in three hedgehogs in a pet caddy.
“As we finished up our afternoon, Adam noticed a pet caddy and inquired what was inside - 3 little hedgehogs dropped into us by @hedgehog_rescue_dublin.
“Turned out, one of his children is a mega hedgehog fan. So as we said our goodbyes ... we packed the 3 little guys into his car to take home for release - What lucky little hogs they were.
“It was a truly magical afternoon at the Hub, spent with one of the Irish greats and a day we will not forget in a hurry.
“Please come back soon Adam, as it was an absolute pleasure and the dogs loved you.”
Adam’s visit is part of his new RTE show Ballroom Blitz, which sees the superstar explore the unique phenomenon of the Irish showband.
The Irish showbands entertained young audiences in Ireland during a moment of growth and prosperity in the 1960s. They were normally a seven or eight piece outfit with powerful horn sections and they interspersed waltzes, Irish music and jazz with the pop hits of the day.
Ballroom Blitz, Clayton delves into how the showbands were part of wider social and cultural change as ballrooms sprang up, offering the young generation a chance to meet up and lose their inhibitions.
The doc also takes in events in July 1975 when three members of Ireland’s most popular showband, The Miami, were killed in Northern Ireland.
That was a year before U2 formed and in Ballroom Blitz, the band’s bass player, Clayton, also explores how showbands played an integral role in the development of the Irish music industry.
