Erik ten Hag has said goodbye to life up north after being sacked from his job as the manager of Manchester United.

The club had been residing in lowly 14th place in the Premier League table following Sunday's 2-1 defeat to West Ham, prompting the 54-year-old's chaotic two and a half years to be brought to an end.

Erik won both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup in his time with the club but this wasn't sufficient for him to hang onto his post.

After he was dismissed, the fallen manager was whisked off to Manchester Airport, where he boarded a jet home to his native country, Holland.

And as Erik considers his next move, we take a look at the former United boss's life away from the touchline...

Erik was born in a town called Haaksbergen in the Netherlands and has been married to his childhood sweetheart Bianca for many years. Bianca largely chooses to remain out of the spotlight but during his tenure as United manager, the couple could be spotted out and about on bike rides close to their Cheshire home.

The couple also have a £1 million, five bedroom base in Oldenzaal in Twente, Netherlands, a small town he tried to escape to occasionally during his high profile time as the United boss. "He likes it here as he is not bothered by anyone," a resident told the Daily Mail, adding: "Living in England he has not had the opportunity to spend a lot of time here but when he does he is not pestered and he can relax."

Erik and Bianca are said to enjoy golf and could be seen dining with their family at upmarket restaurants, including Piccolino in Hale and The Con Club in Altrincham, during his time at United. They have two daughters and a son together whose names have never been publicly shared.

The former United boss once lived above a supermarket in the outskirts of Amsterdam

Despite his riches, the down-to-earth star lived above a supermarket in the outskirts of Amsterdam before securing the Manchester United job. When he first relocated to England, he declined to follow in the footsteps of former United manager Jose Mourinho and move into the five star Lowry Hotel in Salford, instead turning to a city centre penthouse before heading to leafy Cheshire, home to many famous footballers.

The former boss comes from a wealthy background - in 1967 his father Hennie formed a hugely successful real estate company now run by Erik's siblings Michel and Rico. The name Ten Hag can be seen emblazoned across shop windows and apartments in Haaksbergen, which is just a two hour drive from Amsterdam.

The real estate business is worth millions but the Dutchman makes his own money of course, pocketing a reported £9 million a year when he was United manager.
