Liverpool boss Arne Slot feels the Premier League have to do more to help English clubs in Europe.

Slot believes the hamstring injury that has sidelined No 1 keeper Alisson could have been caused by a lack of rest between games after he was forced off during the win at Crystal Palace. The Brazilian isn't expected back until after the international break and Slot reckons top flight bosses need to have a rethink.

Liverpool face RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday and the Dutchman said: "What might be something to think about is that if you play on a Wednesday evening in the Champions League then playing at 12.30 the following Saturday may be a problem when it comes to injuries. In Holland. I am 99 percent sure teams who play Champions League on a Wednesday then play on a Sunday. They get extra rest. Here we say, 'you have so many good players, you get results no matter what'."

Several of Europe's other big leagues - La Liga among them - opt to change their weekend fixtures to aid their teams who are playing in the Champions League that week. The Premier League though have never followed suit.

Several top flight bosses have previously bemoaned the short preparation times afforded to those who've played in Europe. Slot's predecessor Jurgen Klopp was often vocal about the time slots afforded to his team.

The German said in May that Liverpool being asked to play "Thursday, Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday 12.30 is a crime". Klopp also suggested the Premier League's scheduling was partly to blame for English clubs' struggles in Europe last season.

He said: "In general I think it's a really interesting subject. Aston Villa lost 4-2 last night for example - [it] would mean if they go out no English team will be in any kind of European final. I watch a lot of football. The Premier League is the best league in the world so it's not overrated, the players are over-worked."

Alisson looks set to be out until at least November

Throughout October, despite there being a fortnight pause for the international break, Liverpool will play six games. Slot's outfit will have to negotiate four outings over the next ten days across three different competitions.

After the midweek Champions League clash in Germany Liverpool will play Arsenal in the Sunday 4.30pm slot. Alisson will be absent for the game with the Gunners and is also poised to miss contests against Brighton and Aston Villa as the Reds look to remain top of the pile.
