Details have emerged surrounding the untimely death of 31 year old former One Direction superstar Liam Payne, who tragically passed away following a fall from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday. Plans for his funeral are now forming as the singer's autopsy updates roll in.

His distraught father Geoff Payne has flown to South America to identify his son's body and oversee its return to the UK. Authorities revealed that Liam's body might remain in Argentina for 10 to 15 days pending toxicological test results.

Following the conclusion of the investigation, his remains will be released to the family for repatriation, which could mean the funeral may take place early next month upon its arrival back home. According to Argentinian newspaper Clarín, sources from the British Embassy stated: "We are supporting Liam Payne's family and are in contact with local authorities."

Preliminary autopsy findings by the Forensic Medical Corps at the Judicial Morgue on Viamonte Street indicated that Liam suffered "multiple traumas" with "internal and external bleeding" due to his fall.

Further toxicological and anatomical-pathological examinations are being conducted to assess if there were any substances present in his system, reports the Mirror.

The musician's medical history may be sought to examine his mental health background.

Prosecutor No. 16, led by Andrés Madrea, is spearheading the investigation, with Deputy Secretary María Florencia Lavaggi taking testimonies. The full autopsy results will be disclosed in due time.

After journeying to Argentina, Liam's father paid a heartfelt tribute to his son at the hotel where he tragically passed away, observing the tributes left by fans and expressing gratitude for their support. Following the devastating news, Liam's family released a statement saying: "We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we'll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul. We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time."

One Direction came together to release an emotional joint statement on Thursday night.

Signed "Louis, Zayn, Niall and Harry", Liam's One Direction bandmates expressed: "We're completely devastated by the news of Liam's passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly."

"The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam."
