Liam Payne praised Cheryl for making his 'dreams come true' in an emotional public statement a year after they started dating.

The overwhelmed One Direction star made the admission to the world shortly after Cheryl gave birth to their son Bear in an adoring tribute to them both.

The Girls Aloud singer gave birth to their only son at London's Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on March 22, 2017, when she was aged 33. Cheryl and Liam had been dating for a year, after first meeting when Liam auditioned for The X Factor in 2008.

After the birth, new mum Cheryl took to Instagram to share news of the baby boy along with a photo of Bear being cradled in the arms of Liam, who was 23 at the time. She captioned the snap: "On Wednesday 22nd March Liam and I became parents to an incredibly beautiful, healthy baby boy, weighing 7lb 9 and looking like a dream."

Liam also posted the same touching image on his Instagram, paying thanks to Cheryl in the process. As he basked in his new fatherhood, Liam wrote: "My close friends and family know there are very few times when I’m left speechless... wow!

“I’m incredibly happy to welcome our new baby boy into the world, it’s a moment that I will never forget for the rest of my life and my favourite memory I have so far. I’m completely in awe of his incredible mother and how she has been the whole way through this, she’s really made my dreams come true," he added.

“We haven’t named him yet but he’s already capturing hearts including mine. I feel very blessed," said Liam.

This week, hearts broke around the world as Liam's own dad was seen looking at tributes to his son as he arrived at the hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina where his son died.

TV presenter Dermot O'Leary, who had known Liam through his experiences on The X Factor, said 'no parent should have to bury their child' as he paid tribute this week. "I just thought of his family, I thought of his son and then I thought of his parents. I mean no parent should have to bury their son or their daughter."

Liam had said he had 'always wanted to be a young dad'. Speaking about he juggled his new pop career with parenthood, the singer said: “I always wanted to be a young dad, but I didn’t really expect that I’d ever be in this place. When I’m at home, I’m a dad. Then when I [work], I see all these crazy things.

"I walked past a baby in the park and was like, ‘Mine was never that small.’ He was always massive. I look at him, like, ‘Where’s my little baby gone already?’ He’s walking around the house, pretending his teddy’s a phone. He’s awesome. And a lot of fun. I love spending time with him," he gushed.

Liam tragically passed away on Wednesday after falling from the balcony of his third-floor room at Casa Sur Palermo hotel and was tragically pronounced dead after suffering serious injuries.

Cheryl Tweedy's family and friends have rallied around the singer to support her after she released an emotional statement on Liam Payne's death and what it means for their seven-year-old son Bear.

The 41-year-old was left heartbroken and released a statement saying: "As I try to navigate this earth shattering event, and work through my own grief at this indescribably painful time, I'd like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being. Liam was not only a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our 7 year old son. A son that now has to face the reality of never seeing his father again."

The pop singer continued: "What is troubling my spirit the most is that one day Bear will have access to the abhorrent reports and media exploitation we have seen in the past two days. It is breaking my heart further that I cannot protect him from that in his future.

"I am begging you to consider what use some of these reports are serving, other than to cause further harm to everyone left behind picking up the pieces. Before you leave comments or make videos, ask yourself if you would like your own child or family to read them. Please give Liam the little dignity he has left in the wake of his death to rest in some peace at last. Thank you, Cheryl."
