Alejandro Garnacho revealed his stunning strike in Manchester United's win over Brentford came straight from the training ground.

Garnacho's sublime volleyed finish two minutes after half-time, from an equally exquisite Marcus Rashford cross, put United on their way to victory. Winger Garnacho revealed after the win that he and Rashford had worked on the move in training in the build-up to the game and executed it perfectly on match-day.

"I know [Rashford can do this] because we tried it in training this week,” said Garnacho, who now has four goals this season. “I know he has a very good cross and I have to be ready at the back post. When he crossed it, I shot first time and I scored, so I’m happy.

"I missed two big chances in the first-half, but I came back in the second-half with the same mentality, trying to score and win the game and, finally, I could do it. We're very happy. But I think we also had a good performance in the first half - we came in 1-0 down at half-time. But, with a good mentality, we came back in the game. I think we played, in general, a very good game."

United's win helps calm some of the outside noise surrounding Erik ten Hag's future. The Red Devils hadn't won a game since mid-September, when they saw off Southampton at St Mary's, but speculation had mounted that the manager was potentially set for the boot.

The Red Devils had needed two late goals from Scott McTominay to see off Brentford at Old Trafford 12 months ago. Garnacho's strike was his second of the season, adding to the one he goes against the Saints last month.

Ten Hag, who was left fuming that Brentford's opener was allowed to stand in first-half stoppage time, claimed that the win was a further example of the togetherness that exists within the squad, but maintains that the pressure will continue.

He said: "Every game you win is important, you see the togetherness, the fighting spirt and we add some determination to score goals. The stats show we play good football, come in good spots, and do not score enough but today we scored two brilliant goals.

"This team has the capacity to score very good goals and when you score and win you add some confidence. The start of the season we had some good performances. We had chances but didn't score enough and then everyone is negative. It can help us but it is only one win and we must build on this."
