Five beautiful puppies have been saved from “certain death” after they were found in a coal bag along the New Ross Bypass.

On Wednesday, members of the Wexford Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals saved the five little puppies, who were only about three weeks old. Thankfully the puppies were rescued and now are somewhere safe and warm.

The society shared a photo of the cute little puppies on Facebook, which garnered a huge response from the public, who were shocked that someone could treat the puppies so callously.

A spokesperson for the Wexford Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals wrote: “Saved from a certain death, these five little puppies were found sitting on a coal bag on the New Ross Bypass today, what kind of person could do this?

“Puppies are only about three weeks old, tonight they are safe and warm, but there is a poor mother out there looking for her puppies, most lightly in six months' time she will be going through the same ordeal.”

One person commented: “Why can’t people just surrender them… It’s cruel and heartbreaking to see this happening still. We rescued one of the 13 found in Peter’s Square three years ago and she’s just amazing”.

A second penned: “This level of cruelty is heartbreaking, every day of the week. Despite the lack of regulation, how dark must a heart be to deliberately be so cruel to defenceless creatures and their poor mother, totally defies nature… A new breed of evil.”

While a third said: “When I see posts like this it breaks my heart and makes me so angry how can people do it to beautiful animals I love them with my life you are their mammies and they look up to you and rely on you and you treat them like nothing”.

The WSPCA has advised anyone who has concerns about any animal to “please make that call” as they “may be the reason that life is saved.” You can reach them on 053 914 3919 and 087 988 4272 for emergencies.
