TJ Doheny v Naoya Inoue LIVE updates as Irish fighter aims for world title upset
TJ Doheny v Naoya Inoue LIVE u

TJ Doheny faces the biggest fight of his illustrious career when he takes on Naoya Inoue in their world title fight in Tokyo today.

The Portlaoise man is a former world champion in his own right but has never faced a task tougher than when he stops into the ring with the undefeated Japanese boxer.

Inoue, who boasts an impeccable 27-0 record, is currently ranked second in the pound-for-pound rankings only behind Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.

Doheny (37) is certainly in the twilight of his career but has had a storied boxing journey that climaxed in a world title win. And the Irish fighter has been vocal about his aims of getting back to the top of the game.

Following a loss to Sam Goodman in March 2023, Doheny bounced back with three big wins in Japan and has been rewarded with a headline bout against Inoue.

"My motivation has come from tasting being a world champion and trying to get back, but it is hard to get up for fights when they’re not world championship fights," he said in the build-up to the fight.

"I’ve always had the self-belief that I belong at this top table with these champions and I’ve always believed I’d get back here.

"It has taken me a bit longer than I imagined but I’ve enjoyed the climb and I’m ready to put on a good show on Tuesday."

The fight will be broadcast on Sky Sports Plus in Ireland and can be streamed through their app or on NOW TV. Coverage begins at 7.30 am but the fight is not expected to take place until midday. We will have live updates of the fight here on the Irish Mirror.
