Ludvig Aberg will undergo surgery on a knee problem after the Swede's 2024 PGA Tour season came to an end at last week's Tour Championship.

Aberg has become one of golf 's biggest stars over the past year, rising from a college golf amateur to the fourth best player on the planet in the space of 12 months. In that time, Aberg became a winner on both the DP World Tour and PGA Tour, as well as helping Europe clinch the 2023 Ryder Cup.

His remarkable rise was almost topped off at Augusta National in April, after the Swede came agonisingly close to win the Masters on debut, eventually losing out by four shots to green jacket winner Scottie Scheffler.

The second of the season has been less successful for the youngster though, who has been competing on the PGA Tour with an ongoing knee issue. His campaign came to an end at the Tour Championship on Sunday, where he finished 16th in the 30-man field event at East Lake.

Now Aberg's focus will turn to his body, with Golf Channel reporting that the European star will undergo arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. Per the report, it is expect to see Aberg sidelined for up to four weeks, but the 24-year-old is expected to tee it up again before the end of 2024.

He has of course announced himself as the game's hottest prospect since rising to stardom, but it appears Aberg is still keeping his feet firmly on the ground. "There's a lot of new things going on," he said in Atlanta last week. "But I feel like it's very important for me to separate those things.

"I'm still me. I'm still the same person outside of the golf course. I'm still the same person on the golf course. That doesn't change, which I think is the main important thing for me to keep an eye on and make sure that I have people around me that helps me doing those things.

"Obviously I want to get better at golf. I want to play better golf. I want to play bigger tournaments. I want to play well in bigger tournaments. That's just -- I'm a competitor. But yeah, this 15, 12 months has been amazing for me on the golf course, and it's given me a lot of opportunities and a lot of chances that I haven't had before, and I embrace those and I love playing golf and I love being here."

Assessing his first full year on Tour, he added: "It's been fun. I still consider myself a rookie, even though it's my second year or whatever. But yeah, it's been awesome to play all these big events, have a full season under my belt, and have a lot of cool experiences. I am looking forward to a little bit of a break, but I'm also looking forward to a good finish here at East Lake."
