The daughter of the late Christy Dignam has said she thought Aslan performing Crazy World with Coldplay was an amazing touching tribute to her late father.

Singer Kiera Dignam was reacting to her late father’s band on stage performing the hit song in front of 80,000 people at Croke Park on Sunday night.

Dignam passed away in June last year after a long battle with cancer. Lee Tomkins joined the group as the new lead singer in February.

Kiera told us how she was gutted she couldn’t be there in the audience to witness the tribute, but Christy’s wife Katherine and her grand daughter Ava were there instead.

She said: “We got a call on Sunday from some of Coldplay’s staff just to invite us in and let us know that it was happening. It was nice to get a heads up because it’s still very hard. It was nice to see the tribute paid to him. Any tribute is nice and I think it is lovely that Coldplay wanted to give that nod to my dad. It’s an Irish anthem and it’s lovely that it got to be played in Croke Park.”

But the Dubliner said she was in Wexford and couldn’t make it to the concert to see the band perform the song live, but it is understood her mam Kathryn and granddaughter Ava were in the crowds. “No. I didn’t go. I didn’t decline as such but I was down in Wexford at the time when I got the call. I’ve seen the video being shared… of course it is always going to be weird without him,” she added.

Kiera is busy carving out her own singing career as she is busy writing new music and has just returned from Birmingham, performing at Pairc Festival. “It’s great to be able to sing my own songs in the UK. It’s great to get other people to hear them and get more connections outside Ireland,” she added.
