The first ever Tailteann Cup winning skipper has retired from inter-county football.

Westmeath full back Kevin Maguire lifted the inaugural Tailteann Cup on the steps of the Hogan Stand back in 2002 to send the county into raptures.

Maguire was a stalwart in maroon and white one of the most highly rated number threes around. Maguire won a Division 3 League title in 2019.

The Caulry club man will be a massive loss to Dessie Dolan’s successor as Westmeath boss, amid speculation that there could be more retirements in the Lake County.
