Jordan Spieth is set to turn to surgery in the offseason, after the former world No. 1 saw his 2024 campaign on the PGA Tour come to an end on Sunday.

Spieth has struggled to find his best form this year, and this continued at the opening FedEx Cup playoff event in Memphis last week. The three-time major champion ended the FedEx St. Jude Championship in a tie for second-bottom alongside Rory McIlroy after ending the event at nine-over-par.

His poor showing ensured that this would be his final outing of the season, after failing to break into the top-50 of the FedEx Cup standings, thus leaving him out of this week's BMW Championship.

It is back to the drawing board now for Spieth, who has failed to finish inside the top-10 of a PGA Tour event since a tied-10th week at the Valero Texas Open back in April. This run has seen him drift out to 43rd in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), having ended 2023 inside the top-15.

A key issue hampering his golf game this year has been an injury to his wrist, and the American opted to adopt various treatments away from surgery during the season. With his play now over though, Spieth has revealed he is set to turn to surgery in a bid to fix the problem.

"I've got to have it operated on ASAP, and then I'll go through the process of what I'm supposed to do from there,” Spieth said on Sunday. Speaking about a future return date, he claimed: “If I don't have a reason to try to rush back — which I don't — I'll probably just take it as slow as I can."

Interestingly, Spieth has revealed previously that whilst his wrist has posed a problem, it is often not a pain issue that has led to a lack of form during the year. Reiterating this, he added: "I kept trying not to make excuses for myself because it didn’t hurt when I was swinging.

"But it doesn’t seem coincidental based on the amount of time, and really the results being the exact same every single week. So I’m very hopeful. I think there’s some clarity in getting it done,” he said. “There’s also some uncertainty, and so it’s a little scary. But also, if I can learn to find some patience — which I’m not very good at doing — then I think I could come back stronger.”

Reflecting on his disappointing year as a whole, Spieth admitted he had been left 'frustrated' having balanced a poor run of form, as well as an injury concern. The world No. 43 commented: "I put a lot on my own plate and then had some unfortunate circumstances, too."
