England legend Paul Gascoigne has admitted he still misses playing football and hit out at "s***" and overpaid Premier League players.

Gascoigne was speaking to former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman on his podcast ahead of the new season. And, although he admitted he was "looking forward" to it, he was highly critical of modern day footballers.

"I miss it so much even now, really badly," Gascoigne told the 'Seaman Says' podcast, sponsored by Betway. "When I watch a s*** player and he's on £300k a week, I think 'God, almighty!' The bit that gets me is that when they score, they don't really celebrate.

"They forget that a bloke might take his kids to a match and it's expensive. You've got to pay for travel, food, tickets, and then a player scores and blanks them. I hate that. But I've been looking forward to this season. I think I'll watch a few more games."

Gascoigne also hailed Pep Guardiola' s "incredible" achievements at Manchester City and suggested their "reserve team could win the league". He continued: "I've always been a fan of Man Utd because of Sir Alex Ferguson.

"When you get that high, you want them to keep on winning all the time, like Jose Mourinho. Pep Guardiola could win five in a row. It's incredible. I just said to someone the other day, you've got to spend money if you want to catch up with Man City.

"It's just not normal. Their reserve team could win the league. The talent they've got there is unbelievable. Everywhere Pep has gone in, he's had quality players, but he seems to deal with them really well."

Gascoigne also shared his thoughts on Gareth Southgate after his former teammate decided to quit as England boss after losing 2-1 to Spain in the final of Euro 2024, suggesting the players let him down.

"I went to an England game and saw Gareth," he said. "It was funny. I said: 'When I scored my penalty at Euro in 96, I ended up in rehab. You missed yours, you get a £30k pizza advert and the England manager's job!'

"They did well to get the final, I think. I felt sorry for Gareth. When I played for Bobby Robson, we went to the World Cup and I played hard for the manager because I appreciated him for picking me. I don't think they did that for Gareth."
