A male motorcyclist in his 30s has died following a single-vehicle collision in Longford in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The incident occurred at Kilnashee, Drumlish, County Longford at approximately 1.15am on Saturday morning. Gardaí were alerted to the collision and attended the scene of the incident, where a man in his 30s driving a motorcycle was fatally injured.

The R198 road from Longford to Drumlish remains closed and diversions are in place as a technical examination is being carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators at the scene.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward, in particular to any road users who may have been travelling in the area at the time of the collision and have dashcam footage.

A statement from An Garda Síochana read: “Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision that occured at Kilnashee, Drumlish, County Longford in the early hours of this morning Saturday, 10th August 2024.

“At approximately 1.15am Gardaí were alerted to a single vehicle collision involving a motorcyclist. The driver of the motorcycle, a male aged in his 30s, was fatally injured during the collision.

“The R198, Longford to Drumlish road, remains closed as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conduct a technical examination of the scene. Diversions are in place.

“Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time of the incident, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Longford Garda Station on 043 335 0570, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
