Olympic champion Adam Peaty has opened up about the life-changing impact Gordon Ramsay had on his personal and professional life.
The 29 year old swimmer credited the celeb chef with helping him climb out of a "deep, dark hole" after a tough period plagued by depression and alcohol issues. Adam faced a rough patch following his defeat at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, which ended an impressive eight-year winning streak.
This low point was compounded by his split from the mother of his child, leading to what he described as "three years of hell". But Adam's fortunes took a turn for the better when he struck up a romance with Holly Ramsay, daughter of the famous chef Gordon Ramsay.

The couple met during their time on BBC's hit show Strictly Come Dancing in 2021, sparking a transformative relationship. Entering Gordon's world, Adam has lauded the Michelin-starred chef for his crucial role in his turnaround, guiding him from a destructive lifestyle back to peak athletic performance.
In a candid interview with The Sunday Times in April 2024, Adam praised Gordon's mentorship and formidable work ethic. He revealed: "He [Ramsay] is an incredible energy to be around and an incredible person to have that guidance from. Gordon is a high performer." The Olympic swimmer has credited celebrity chef with inspiring his no-nonsense approach to professional training and mindset.
Adam opened up about drawing parallels between his own dedication to swimming and Gordon's renowned work ethic, remarking, "He worked his way up to the upper echelons of his industry and works in a place where there's no bulls**t. I take a lot from that and from the professionalism he has every single day with a relentless pursuit."
He went on to speak about how Gordon's influence reshaped his views on daily commitment to his sport, adding, "So, when I see that, I'm like, 'Yeah, why can't I work like this? Why can't I do this every single day? Why do I have to be so emotionally engaged with things? '".
The love life of Adam also made waves as he and Holly Ramsay confirmed their relationship in June 2023, after starting to date the previous month. They made a more serious commitment by getting matching tattoos before the year's end. Despite the pressure of preparing for the Paris Olympics, where Adam has secured a spot following his personal best in Britain's 100m men's breaststroke, it seems he's managed to foster a good rapport with his girlfriend's famous father.
The two men shared some banter, with Gordon teasing the Olympian in the lead-up to the competition. Gordon cheekily prodded Adam about his post-competition intentions, eliciting the athlete's playful retort: "Who knows? You're smiling, I'm not going to give you the pleasure. I'm not going to do it. You're trapping me."
True to form, the fiery chef from Hell's Kitchen retorted with a typically bold: "You're full of s**t! You are definitely not retiring. Absolutely, definitely not retiring." He then added, with a hint of mischief before offering his good wishes: "Very best of luck. Don't f*** this up."
