Gardaí have arrested a disqualified motorist who was nabbed driving under the influence of drugs over the week.

Longford Roads Policing Unit stopped a car during the week, with the driver testing positive for both cocaine and cannabis in a roadside drug test. Gardaí also discovered the driver was disqualified.

Officers arrested the driver and seized their vehicle, with a court summons to follow for the brazen motorist.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Longford Roads Policing Unit stopped this car earlier this week and the driver tested positive for cocaine and cannabis in a roadside drug test.

“Gardaí also discovered the driver was disqualified. The driver was arrested with court to follow and the vehicle was seized.”

The maximum penalty for drunk or drug driving is a €5000 fine and/or imprisonment for up to six months. All drink driving offences result in disqualification from driving for at least three months.

If you drive while disqualified from driving, or you are required to produce a certificate of competency or certificate of fitness before getting a driving licence but you fail to do so, you could be fined up to €5000, or be imprisoned for up to six months, or both.
